weblob 4: it takes two to tango.

As i read through God vs. Science, it became clear to me that both of these men, Professor Richard Dawkins and Dr. Francis Collins have very strong beliefs on their own sides. Professor Dawkins is a scientist who is a firm believer in Darwin’s theory of evolution and that a god of any sort just does not exist or was capable of creating what many believe he did. Dr. Collins is the opposite and believes that God had a general idea for the universe and how it was to pan out over time. In this debate it Collins even says that evolution could have been the design God had planned out, but not in an obvious way. When looking at it through Professor Dawkins perspective, he believes religion has no connection with science or the creation of earth. Looking at it from my own personal view it has always been hard for me to just say it was God or science. In reality scientists can come up with hundreds of reasons and supposed evidence claiming that it is evolution and that they have all these facts to just shoot down the idea of a higher being. Though that is where it is hard to choose a side, science is all about facts and experiments, but faith and religion is all about what you are truly feeling, there still is no evidence or experiment that can be given to prove 100 percent that God is the creator of everything. I would like to think Dr. Collins is right and in his debate with Professor Dawkins on evolution he retorts with this response;
“by being outside of nature, God is also outside of space and time. Hence, at the moment of the creation of the universe, God could also have activated evolution, with full knowledge of how it would turn out, perhaps even including our having this conversation. The idea that he could both foresee the future and also give us spirit and free will to carry out our own desires becomes entirely acceptable.”

Looking at it from that perspective who is to say God isn’t real and may or may not have had the idea of evolution in mind all along. As Dawkins points out why would God wait billions of years for it to take effect, which is a very good question, but perhaps God has this long-term plan for the universe which includes slowly growing into a world that is of God’s standards. This universe is making many mistakes, it takes time to get things right.

topic triage

1.what am i talking about?

i am talking about the long time debate of whether it is God or the theory of evolution that is responsible for mankind.

2.what am i saying about it?

i’m saying that no matter which way you go on this that there still isn’t enough evidence to prove either.

3.why am i saying this?

i’m saying this because that in either direction no matter your belief that it could be right.

4. how is this so?

this is so because that given the doctors who have studied evolution in their life can come up with evidence to make people believe, but at the same time when it comes to God you can never give 100% truth to anything.

5.Why should readers care?

readers should care because they should know both sides of this on going debate rather than just saying one is so over another.

writing reflection one.

over the past few years i have really gotten into chuck palahniuk novels. i think it is mainly because he just dives right into the story without even seeming to have any remorse on what he is saying. he is so raw and often times gritty that you would never even imagine coming up with some of these stories he has. his style is alot of the times the same throughout all of his novels where he has a good habit of going back and forth between different characters and settings, but in a way that it helps develop the story. this technique really gives you a way to feel more for each person and come up with your own opinions of who you are reading about. a lot of the time palahniuk comes up with many twists and just really keeps the readers intrigued. chuck palahniuk has helped influence my writing style by demonstrating real and honest story telling. he develops an idea and then takes it to the next level and just tells it how he believes it should be in his stories. if i was to ever even remotely consider a career in writing i would hope to just be able to tell it like it is, no sugar coating it. chuck palahniuk brings reality into fiction stories and as i continue to grow in my own writing experiences i hope i am able to just bring the real into everything i write.

weblog two: what do i think?

September 19, 2009 by corinne112

part one.

1. obama’s health care plan- i’ve come to realize personally, that yes, in some circumstances in may be a better choice for some groups of people. but even with this “free health care” idea being spread people are failing to see some of the bad from this proposal. those with existing conditions aren’t more than likely going to receive any help. then when it comes to obtaining help, it will sometimes take months to get it or to even get an answer on what is wrong. this will generally be because of such a high demand from those who can’t receive help from the hospital now. i’m not saying that those with health insurance are the only ones who are able to see a doctor at this moment, even they worry about getting help because no, insurance does not cover everything.

2. pulling the troops out of the middle east- seeing as we live in hampton roads, having so many troops come home will either be a great thing, or extremely hard on our economy. we are all currently getting hit by it, but those in the military or married to one enlisted may see trouble. who knows whether or not they will be able to find another job. they aren’t going to be able to place all the troops in a new job when they come home. this could be like vietnam all over again, just like after all those troops came home, no one wanted them and they all struggled, and some could still be to this day.

3. on the economy- president obama has said that he believes that the middle class should pull a large part of rebuilding this nations economy. though personally i don’t see where he is thinking that the middle class are so well off that the should have to pay these taxes, and then seeing where a lot of it is going. personally for months now due to not working enough hours each week i have not been having federal taxes taken out due to obama’s “american recovery and reinvestment act” he signed several weeks after being inaugurated. this can be a good and bad thing. i will now not receive a federal income tax, which many people look forward to each year. also, the middle class generally are fending for themselves, while a lot of the lower class have welfare to fall back on, and medicaid, or even wic for their babies, and the middle class is who pays for it.

4. in norfolk, we have one of the highest tax rates in virginia on top of a lot of other things. seeing as virginia as a whole is said to have a 5% sales tax i feel as seeing how with this recession impacting so hard and food prices constantly rising that is should be lowered. north carolina only has a 2% sales tax and then even in some states they don’t have any at all.

5. world wide child death rates- recently it was brought to my attention how high the death rate toll is for children all around the world.  almost 25,000 children are brought to their death due to poverty, hunger, and even preventable dieseases and illnesses. that is almost 9 million children in a years time.  this would seem like the type of thing that would be talked about in everyday news.  slowly but surely there are foundations that send people and attempt to help these impoverished children like unicef for example or amnesty international.

6. invisible children – along with these high death rates around the world, there are also thousands of children who are kidnapped and forced into wars as soldiers, even at ages as young as ten years old. these children lose their innocence and are forced into this. sadly the young girls who are also taken suffer much more serious fates with rape and murder. just like with the poverty and hunger problems, there are also foundations that are searching for answers and aide to these children, including invisible children and war child.

7.  u.s education system- in the united states it is slowly losing students and gainging drop outs. the drop out rates increase rapidly each year. the government supplies lower class schools with all proper and up to date equipment faster than other areas so that this drop out rate may not keep increasing and so that these children growing up in this said area can recieve the proper education, though the problem with this is that these children also have the option to get moved to another school with an out of district to the schools in the nicer area, though the children of middle class families can not get moved to the schools with the high tech equipment. seems a bit unfair. also, the government is forcing many schools to cancel programs due to funds, such as art and music. these programs are what should be kept, it’s what helps inspire children and want them to find something for themselves.

8. prisons and law- it is found that there are times that many people are incarcerated on false pretenses, and then times where people who should be 100% guilty walk away with nothing due to the jury or lack of evidence.this is often why our crime rate are so high. awful, horrible, murderers are just set into a prison and “wait” for either the death sentence if it is to ever come, or just wait till their own death. though i often feel that this isn’t always the best way to go about it, because it is the innocent, or the ones who have suffered loss, and feel anger towards them that are paying to keep these people alive, dressed, and fed in these federal prisons with our  tax dollars.

9. constitution – after some research i have found that this country is only several states away from our congress and government discussing many changes to our constitution. this would be getting rid of our unalienable rights as citizens to this country and basically in a way deleting our history that our founding fathers fought  to create.

10. racism- this has been and sadly will always be an issue no matter how much change can happen. yes, this country has now had it’s first black president. but many people are failing to remember he himself is not just black, he is also white, and quite possibly many other nationalities as most americans are. though from personally experience in the past year with this obama hype i have run into many rude, angry african american people. not because of obama himself, but because many still try to blame white people for all their problems. but i can’t say white people don’t do the same in reverse.  it seems racism will never end if people don’t blaming other people and focus on themselves.

part two.

i personally am more emotionally attached to anything that is causing harm to innocent children, especially those kidnapped and have to witness their parents getting brutally murdered. these children most of the time do not even get to learn what is right from wrong because their kidnappers teach them how to become killing machines themselves. they become messengers, fighters, anything and everything that a child should never have to be. and when it comes to the young ladies who are ripped from their families, they are often forced and have their innocence stolen. but in this country, these stories are never talked about because it is not happening within our own u.s. military. though if you think about it, it is happening on our own streets everyday with more kids being inducted into gangs because they do not have proper parental figures, or because they do not know right from wrong.

part three.

looking through someone else eyes are always hard when you hold such a strong opinion about something.  anyone reading this may think, “why are you only worrying about things happening somewhere else?”, but any one of these kids could have the power to change the world, to make it better. yes, our economy is bombing. yes, our health plan has its ups and downs. and yes, the school system needs help. but these children do too.  though i do agree that our country is in dire need of many revisions and new ways of living. and given the circumstances i would never even think twice about this kids if i was the time to not care about children or other world events.

weblog one: what do i believe.

September 15, 2009 by corinne112

part one.

i believe that people are quite confusing in nature. they say one thing, and do another. they lie, cheat, steal, and continue to do awful things to one another, and then try to pin the blame on someone else.  i’m not saying that there isn’t any good people, but even they can be confusing.

i believe that society as a whole is to demanding of one individual. if everyone actually could work together, then maybe changes can happen.

i believe that the government are stealing are rights as citizens. this day and age our constitution doesn’t mean anything, in fact, we are only a few states away from having it re-written or just tossed.

i believe that justice is always sought for, but not always given. sometimes it’s those that have done wrong who walk.

i believe that knowledge is one thing this world is losing. the drop out rate just keeps climbing. everyone has a say in something, but often times most of it just doesn’t make since.

i believe that science is a very important part of our daily lives. curing diseases, inventing new machines to advance in medicine for cancer. it’s all science.

i believe reality is one thing that is slowly fading away. who’s to say what is real anymore with all these new surgical techniques, and reality t.v. shows. or even everyday things like the news can cover up what is really happening in our world.

i believe that life can be a beautiful thing if you look in the right places. smiling faces, laughter, and nature are all ways to see what life really is about. look at your surroundings, sometimes it’s amazing, and sometimes it’s the scariest thing to witness.

i believe that happiness is a scarce thing these days with everyone worrying about finances or work. happiness can be achieved by the tiniest thing.

i believe that goodness is something you really have to search for. people have masks, can be fake, and awful. you  have to see someone and know someone for who the really are to find goodness.

i believe that death is inevitable. it’s going to happen whether you are prepared for it or not. this is something that one day in your life you will have to embrace. everyone has their own views on death. it’s the mystery that scares people. will you go to heaven or hell? is there reincarnation? can you really be born again? these are all questions with to many beliefs and no real answers.

i believe that god is always a possible reality. but there’s still always the thought that if there is a god, then how can there be so much evil in the world. if he is almighty, why hasn’t this said god fixed all the wrong doings. or if there is a god, how are there so many other religious beliefs claiming so many other possibilities of life and existence.

part two. –i believe that death..

when it comes to death it can be seen as a very touchy subject to some, but it is going to happen. i don’t believe science will come up with a way to keep one specific human alive for an infinite time.  as i’ve been getting older i’ve always asked myself the big “what if” question. what if there is a heaven or hell, or even purgatory? or what if my soul is reborn in another living creation? just what if.  honestly, i think any of these things can be true, seeing as there is no real proof stating for a fact it isn’t. i’d love to think that my soul can be reborn, or that even the soul i have now once belonged to another from long ago. it would explain so many deja vu instance there have been in my life.  or what if life is just one full circle. we just keep starting over, without ever knowing it.  also there’s the unknowing fear. when will it happen. some people may know or are given a time frame due to illness, others just live life day-to-day with the thought it could be at an old age. sadly accidents happen. it’s something that can’t be prevented. that’s why instead of stressing it’s better to just live life, be happy when you can be. who knows about tomorrow..no one.

part three.

when thinking about this topic through an opposing side it is truly hard to think of how someone else would feel. i personally named many different opinions i have on the subject.  so who’s to say that we wouldn’t share the same feelings. though of course there is always the atheists point of view. this person will just think generally that that’s it. life ended, there isn’t any special place for us to go, we won’t be reborn, or it is not a full circle. you just die and that’s it. buried and left in the ground or carried to where ever your ashes are. atheists are hard to predict since most often they are said to not believe an anything that comes to a religious aspect  and a good percentage of the time religion is incorporated with death.
